Read Scott Martin is an experienced public affairs strategist who has led coalitions and crisis campaigns on some of the most contentious issues at the intersection of government and business. His background as a writer and producer for newspaper, television, radio and new media can add just the tactical edge a winning campaign requires.
His crisis management assignments include counseling the World Bank Group Staff Association during the 2007 World Bank presidential crisis; directing public outreach campaigns in the aftermath of 9-11 for the D.C. Emergency Management Agency and the U.S. Department of Labor; and numerous international and domestic U.S. campaigns.
His political and ballot campaign experience - always with message-driven communications in his portfolio - includes: Rep. Richard Gephardt (D-MO) and Senator Bob Kerrey (D-NE) for president; U.S. House of Representatives from Nassau County, N.Y. (1992); Pennsylvania Governor (1994); the California affirmative action ballot initiative (1996); the victorious "Yes on 4" referendum for Florida's pari-mutuel industry (2004); and in Kiev, Ukraine, for the winning party in the 2006 parliamentary elections.
Before joining WIT, he was Communications Director for U.S. Senator Carol Moseley-Braun (D-IL); group director at the Washington public affairs firm Powell Tate from 1997 to 1999; vice president at the Rasky/Baerlein Group, opening its Washington office; and a co-founder of Group 360 Communications.
Read is a former reporter and editor for the Associated Press, United Press International and the Dallas Observer. and has written on politics and public policy for numerous publications. He is a 1987 graduate of Duke University.
